Barcelona icon Pep Guardiola played an important role in convincing Manchester City star Rodri to opt for a move to the Blaugrana over Real Madrid this summer.
This comes amid the understanding that the exact scenario which has played out over the last couple of weeks regarding the future of the midfielder was put to Guardiola by Rodri himself last season.
It is of course now common knowledge across the world of football that the 30-year-old looks all set for a return to his home country over the coming weeks.
After it at one point appeared certain that Rodri would put pen to paper on terms with Real Madrid, the Ballon d’Or winner is now widely reported to have given the green light to Los Blancos ‘ arch rivals, Barcelona.
And those of a Blaugrana persuasion will no doubt be delighted to learn of the role played by the aforementioned Pep Guardiola in as much.
As per a report from journalist Melchor Ruiz of COPE:
“While at City, Rodri already asked Pep Guardiola this past season if, in these circumstances, he would advise him between Madrid and Barcelona.
“You can obviously imagine what he advised him…”
