Fitter and Faster Swim Camps is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.
Michigan native Katie Dunfield will continue her swimming career at Florida Atlantic University beginning in the fall of 2027. Dunfield specializes in middle-distance freestyle and backstroke events and currently competes for Fenton High School and OLY Swimming.
“I am so excited to announce my verbal commitment to continue my academic and athletic career at Florida Atlantic University. I want to thank Coach Adam and Chase for making this possible. I also want to thank my best friends for always being there for me and pushing me to be better not only in practice, but as a person as well. I also want to thank my parents for always being there for me. Special thanks to my dad who has never missed a race and has always believed in me. Lastly, Thank you to Coach Lara and Bubb at FAU for this amazing opportunity. GO OWLS!!!🦉 “
Dunfield was a two-time finalist at the 2025 MHSAA Division 2 State Championships (SCY) in November, placing 3rd in both the 200 free (1:51.06) and 500 free (5:01.88). Her prelim time of 1:50.70 in the 200 free remains her lifetime best.
At the 2026 Michigan ULTRA Championship (SCY) in March, Dunfield recorded a PB in the 100 back (57.10) as the leadoff for her team’s medley relay, which placed 3rd. Individually, she also finished 4th in the 100 back (57.33), 7th in the 50 fly (26.37), 7th in the 100 fly (57.68), and 16th in the 50 free (24.74).
Earlier in the month, Dunfield competed at the 2026 MCSA Senior Cup Championship (SCY), where she won the 500 free with a lifetime best of 4:55.76. She placed 2nd in the 200 IM (2:08.32), 2nd in the 100 fly (57.62), 4th in the 200 back (2:04.74), and 9th in the 100 breast (1:10.74). Her prelim times in the 100 fly (57.49) and 200 back (2:03.22), along with her finals time in the 100 breast (1:10.74), remain lifetime bests.

Florida Atlantic’s women’s team finished 6th out of 9 teams at the 2026 American Conference Championships. Dunfield has the potential to make a significant impact upon her arrival, as both her 200 free and 500 free times would have been fast enough to qualify for the ‘B’ final at the meet.
Dunfield will arrive on campus alongside Katie Kessell, Mallie Whiteley, Emily Scargill, Lylah Rigby, Regan Carpenter, and Addison Daugherty in the fall of 2027. Rigby also holds strong times in the 200 free (1:52.15) and 500 free (4:59.44).
