Fitter and Faster Swim Camps is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.

High school senior Charlie Camplin, from Morrisville, North Carolina, has announced his intention to swim and study at North Carolina State University beginning in the fall of 2027. He confirmed to SwimSwam:

“I chose NC State because of the unmatched culture and the elite coaching staff. Chasing championships while being part of a tight-knit family that pushes you every day is exactly what I was looking for in a college program, and the Wolfpack embodies that perfectly. That’s when I knew it was the place to be.
Thank you to everyone who helped me reach this point. I’m honored to join the NC State Swim and Dive legacy next year. Go Pack! 🐺”

Camplin is a USA Swimming Scholastic All-American at Panther Creek High School. His high school coach is Derek Hren, a former All-American from NC State who won an ACC title in the 100 breast (2016) and three in the 200 medley relay (2015-17). He does his year-round swimming with the Marlins of Raleigh and pointed out to SwimSwam that “my coach Paul Silver has coached many before me to the Wolfpack Swim and Dive team.”

Camplin specializes in breast, fly, and IM, but he has a sneaky good distance free (à la Matthew Fallon). He is coming off a very strong long course season, culminating in a 200 breast title at Madison Futures. He also placed 3rd in the 400 IM, 7th in the 100 breast, 13th in the 200 fly, 14th in the 200 IM, and 17th in the 800 free, and took home lifetime bests in the 100 breast (1:03.62), 200 breast (2:14.38), 200 fly (2:05.81), 200 IM (2:07.89), and 400 IM (4:28.59).

Those performances came on top of a slew of PBs at the North Carolina Senior Long Course Championships in July, when he notched times of 1:58.08 in the 200 free, 4:09.31 in the 400 free, 30.08 in the 50 breast, 2:18.81 in the 200 breast, 2:06.10 in the 200 fly, and 2:08.78 in the 200 IM.

In short course season, Camplin swam the 500 free (4:35.14, PB), 1000 free (9:24.38, PB), 100 breast (57.18), 200 breast (1:59.09, PB), 200 IM (1:53.12), and 400 IM (3:57.71) at Winter Juniors East. In high school season, he logged PBs at the NCHSAA 8A State Championships in the 100 breast (55.79 for 4th place) and 200 IM (1:51.25 for 3rd), and split a 25.90 breast on the medley relay and a 48.42 free on the 400 free relay.

By the end of the season, he had lowered his PBs to 1:43.58 in the 200 free,15:47.84 in the mile, 55.80 in the 100 breast, 1:58.05 in the 200 breast, 1:49.06 in the 200 fly, 1:50.08 in the 200 IM, and 3:53.48 in the 400 IM.

Camplin join a young breaststroke group, headlined by freshmen Jan Gajda and Nusrat Allahverdi and sophomore Ian Stutts. He will join the class of 2031 with “Honorable Mention” Thomas McMillan, “Best of the Rest” swimmers Evan Summers, Max Laine, and Seth Morgan, and the #7 diver Landyn Snook in Raleigh next fall.
