Daniil Medvedev already has some ideas about where he could retire from professional tennis.
Medvedev is currently 30 years old, and is a Grand Slam champion, a former world number one and has won 24 titles in his career.
The Russian had a difficult season in 2025, with Medvedev dropping outside the top 10 after struggling to find form, raising some questions about his future in the sport.
However, Medvedev has rediscovered form in 2026 and is now a top five player again, quietening any suggestions of retirement, but he has admitted where he would like to say his farewell when the time comes.

Daniil Medvedev says the US Open is a ‘good option’ for him to retire
There have been a number of high-profile retirements from tennis this year, including Gael Monfils, Kei Nishikori, David Goffin and Stan Wawrinka, with the latter set to retire next week.
Medvedev is currently competing at the Almaty Open, where he is the defending champion, and after his quarter-final win against Terence Atmane he was asked about where he would like to retire from tennis.
While it was clear that this is not something Medvedev had placed much thought on, he admitted that he would ideally like to retire at home in Russia if the ATP Tour returns to his country in the future. However, Medvedev then stated that the US Open would also be a good option for him.
“I have very little idea, but of course if suddenly tournaments return to Russia it would be ideal, especially if they are held at the end of the year as before,” Medvedev told BB Tennis. “And so the US Open seems like a good option.”
Medvedev was then asked who he would like to play in his retirement match, “It doesn’t matter, it could be against some new 18-year-old whose name we don’t know yet. Maybe if it was someone from Russia, it would probably be more fun. Although, perhaps it would be more offensive.”
What is Daniil Medvedev’s best Grand Slam tournament?
The US Open is where many players choose to end their careers, as it is the final Grand Slam on the calendar, but Medvedev has a more personal connection with the tournament.
Medvedev reached his first Grand Slam final at the US Open in 2019, before going on to win his first title at the New York major two years later.
This has made the US Open Medvedev’s statistically best Grand Slam tournament, closely followed by the Australian Open, where he has also reached the final three times.
| Grand Slam | Daniil Medvedev’s win-loss record | Daniil Medvedev’s best result |
| Australian Open | 31-10 (76%) | Final (2021, 2022 & 2024) |
| Roland Garros | 10-10 (50%) | Quarter-final (2021) |
| Wimbledon | 20-8 (71%) | Semi-final (2023 & 2024) |
| US Open | 36-9 (80%) | Won the title (2021) |
Medvedev was unable to even reach any Grand Slam quarter-finals this year, but he has added three ATP titles to his collection.
The 30-year-old could make it four titles in 2026 if he defends his Almaty Open title, as Medvedev also looks to move closer to securing his return to the ATP Finals.
