Fitter and Faster Swim Camps is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.

Winter Juniors qualifier Briana Mingmuang has announced her verbal commitment to swim and study at the University of Illinois, becoming the first commit in the Fighting Illini’s class of 2032. She publicized the news on SwimCloud, writing:

I’m thrilled to announce my verbal commitment to continue my academic and athletic career at the University of Illinois! I’m incredibly grateful to my family, friends and coaches, especially coaches, Dave, Justin, Ethan, Gerald and Max for their constant support and guidance over the years. A special thank you as well to Coaches, Jeana, Jerod and Zach for this amazing opportunity. I can’t wait to be part of such an incredible team. Go Illini!!

A senior at Whitney Young High School in Chicago, Illinois, Mingmuang has been a member of her school’s varsity swimming team since her freshman year. She also trains year-round with the Chicago Wolfpack Aquatic Club, where she primarily specializes in backstroke and sprint butterfly.

The 2025-26 short course season saw Mingmuang drop just over a second in the 200 back and a little under half a second in the 100 back. On the high school scene, she swam a lifetime-best 55.21 in the 100 back early in the season, then placed sixth in the event (55.81) at the Illinois High School Association (IHSA) State Championships in November. She also took 23rd in the 100 fly (57.14 – SB) and helped Whitney Young to 15th in the 200 medley relay (26.33 leadoff) and 28th in the 200 free relay (24.62 split).

Mingmuang capped off the season at the Illinois Senior Championships, where she made the ‘A’ final in all three backstroke events. She finished second in the 50 back (25.84 – PB), third in the 200 back (1:59.87 – PB), and fourth in the 100 back (55.83). Her lifetime best of 56.79 in the 100 fly also came at the 2025 edition of the meet.

Beyond short course, Mingmuang clocked 2:19.54 in the 200 back (LCM) over the summer, qualifying her for Winter Juniors (SCY) in December.

Top SCY Times:

  • 100 Backstroke: 55.21
  • 200 Backstroke: 1:59.87
  • 100 Butterfly: 56.79

A Division I program, the Illinois women finished 14th out of 14 teams at the 2026 Big Ten Championships. To score at the meet, times of 54.05/1:58.51 were needed in the 100/200 back and 53.24 in the 100 fly, putting Mingmuang outside the cutoffs for now, though she still has nearly two full seasons of training ahead before lining up at her first conference meet.
