NC State Wolfpack Keeps Butterflyer Emma Grace Richardson In State for 2028

NEW COMMIT: NC State University has picked up a big verbal commitment for Fall 2028 from in-state standout Emma Grace Richardson of Charlotte, N.C. Richardson is among the top recruits in this class.

She will join Abigail Bonham and Veronica Metz in Raleigh as a member of the Wolfpack’s Class of 2032.

Regarding her commitment, she said:

“I am so excited to announce my verbal commitment to continue my academic and athletic career at NC State! A huge thank you to my incredible family. I am so grateful for your unwavering support and encouragement. To my amazing friends and teammates, thank you for pushing me to be the best version of myself in and out of the pool. I also want to thank Coach Kevin, Coach Russ, Coach Scott, and Coach Larry for everything you have done for me throughout this journey. A special thank you to Coach Braden, Coach Stef, and all of the coaching staff at NC State for giving me this amazing opportunity. I cannot wait to be a part of this incredible team! Go Pack!!! 🐺♦️”

Richardson, who does her club swimming with SwimMAC Carolina, earned the silver medal in the 100m fly at Junior Nationals this past summer where she also won the B-final of the 50m fly. Back in December, she earned bronze in the 100 fly at Juniors East before going on to produce four top-10 finishes at North Carolina Short Course Seniors in February.

Her best times include:

  • 50 fly – 24.15
  • 100 fly – 52.13
  • 200 fly – 1:59.77
  • 50 free – 22.87
  • 100 free – 49.98

Currently a junior at Myers Park High School, Richardson earned gold in the 100 fly and silver in the 50 free — as well as gold in the 4×50 medley and 4×50 free relays — at the 2026 North Carolina 8A State Championships. The USA Swimming Scholastic All-American was runner-up in the 50 free and 100 fly at the 4A state meet in 2025.

NC State finished fifth at the 2026 Atlantic Coast Conference Championships and ninth at the 2026 NCAA Championships.

Richardson’s best time in the 100 fly would’ve scored in the B-final at last year’s conference meet, and she would’ve placed in the C-final of the 200 fly.
