How Odyssey’s new TRTL putters put trust back in your stroke | Gear
If you’ve spent any time on the putting green lately, you’ve noticed the trend: mallets are winning. So it’s no shock Odyssey is leaning into it with its new TRTL lineup, bringing more animalistic inspiration to the mallet market. This lineup has high aspirations to compete for market share in a crowded space, but if there’s any company up to the task, it’s going to be the team over at Odyssey.
The TRTL technically comes in two flavors. The standard TRTL mallet shape, which takes design cues from the anatomy of a turtle, is built for easy alignment and comes in a Crank Hosel, Double Bend and S Neck version. It was Min Woo Lee’s S Neck “prototype” at this year’s Pebble Beach Pro-Am that got the buzz officially started.

Then there’s the TRTL Max S2S, which chases maximum MOI and uses Odyssey’s popular Square-2-Square design with zero torque. It’s built for players who want to minimize face rotation and keep the putter face square all the way through the stroke. The MAX shape is also slightly larger than the standard body, which helps to further raise the MOI value of the platform and create an even more stable stroke for a nice and easy straight back and straight through, square-to-square experience.
Every model gets a new Twin Track alignment system with long, uninterrupted lines, plus the new Ai-Star insert. It’s a dual-layer design: an aluminum inner layer under a firmer urethane striking surface. The goal is consistent ball speed across the face and better forward roll, with a new, Forward Roll Design (at a 19° slope) deeper groove package helping that along. Expect a firmer, more responsive feel than you might associate with Odyssey’s softer inserts like the White Hot.
The construction is a multi-material affair. A steel body with a black PVD finish sits under a lightweight ABS shell and an aerospace-grade aluminum sole. That mix pushes weight to the perimeter for stability and forgiveness. Four discrete weights in the corners let you shift the CG toward the front, rear, heel or toe, and fine-tune toe hang, which is unusual for an Odyssey mallet but extremely helpful in fitting environments or when dialing in a putter to the perfect spec for the best players in the world. The new sole geometry, with refined rake and camber, is designed to help the putter sit square the moment you set it behind the ball.
The design team says it took some time to get here.

“We’ve spent so much time developing and fine-tuning this product over the last year and a half,” said Eric Stubben, Odyssey’s R&D Director, Putters. “Conceptually it maximizes MOI and that’s something that we believe in. We wanted to bring the alignment line all the way to the face, to soften the edges, and we wanted to make the alignment lines highly visible. We feel really excited about where we ended up from a functionality standpoint and from a design standpoint as well. We’re excited about the MOI, the CG depth, and the insert really separates TRTL with our face technologies that create more ball speed consistency and better distance control across the face.”
Luke Williams, Odyssey’s Sr. Director of Putters, was even bolder: “We believe this is the next iconic shape from Odyssey. Everything we’ve put into it from the all-new mallet shape to the insert, alignment and soling is engineered so that you can trust the TRTL to putt your best. It’s already trending on tour, it’s incredibly popular, and we expect to see outstanding performance for players who put it in their hands.”
There’s evidence behind the confidence. The TRTL debuted earlier this year in Japan, where its four models have remained the top four sellers since launch and helped Odyssey climb past a 50 percent market share. On tour, it’s already the company’s most requested putter model. Min Woo Lee and recent LPGA winner Yuna Nishimura are among the players who’ve put it in play, along with plenty of non-staffers, and Odyssey expects even more of them to switch as the global tours head into 2027.
The Odyssey TRTL and TRTL MAX are all-new shapes designed to deliver exceptionally high MOI in a modern, confidence-inspiring design. They feature our new Twin Track alignment with long, uninterrupted lines. Every model features our new Ai-Star insert, a dual layer construction combining urethane and aluminum engineered to deliver consistent ball speed across the face and improve forward roll while delivering iconic Odyssey feel.

The thing that has me excited most about the TRTL lineup is the new Ai-Star face insert. It feels good and because of the Forward Roll Design groove package it gets the ball rolling quickly. For me, it’s easily a top-three putter in my arsenal as far as the roll it putts on the golf ball. Based on feel it’s the closest thing we’ve gotten to the old school micro-hinge face that players absolutely loved. It gives great feedback off the face while still providing some ball speed. And the face feels like it hugs the golf ball for a minute before letting it come off the face, which helps to provide a wonderful feeling of control from the putter. If you’re somebody who thinks the White Hot face is too soft, but the Damascus face is too firm, the TRTL’s new Ai-Star face insert is absolutely the ticket.

I can’t count the number of Tour Updates we’ve watched from Callaway’s Johnny Thompson where he’s mentioned these “prototypes” out on tour, but I am glad we can all finally see and appreciate the TRTL lineup that seems to grow in popularity every week.
And now please let me wrap this up with a cool story about Billy Horschel.
Horschel has been searching all year for a putter. He’s gone through at least seven that we have seen or known of, but his switch to Odyssey has turned his putting around. At the conclusion of the Scottish Open he was was losing over 2 strokes to the field in putting, but after a switch to the Ai-Dual Rossie, from the 3M Open through the Wyndham he flipped the script and gained over 3 strokes. Most recently from Asheville through his play in Japan, equipped with a TRTL, he’s gained more than 7 strokes through 12 rounds. That’s a meteoric rise over a single year.
