Victoria Core, a two-time Arizona high school state champion, has announced her verbal commitment to swim for the University of Nevada, Las Vegas beginning in the fall of 2027.
“I am extremely blessed and honored to announce my verbal commitment to continue my academic and athletic career at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas! This achievement would not have been possible without the unwavering support of my parents and family, who have sacrificed so much to help me pursue my dreams. I want to thank God for His blessings and guidance throughout this journey. I appreciate my teammates at Flagstaff Snow Sharks, who push me to work hard every day. A special thank you to my coaches Jeff, Larry, George, and Xander for all of their support and dedication to my development in the pool. Thank you to Coach Pat, Coach Dan, Coach Pieter, and the entire coaching staff at UNLV for this amazing opportunity. I am so excited to continue my journey as a Rebel and can’t wait to see what the future holds! GOOOO REBELS!! ❤️🖤”
A senior at Flagstaff High School, Core has competed for her school’s varsity swimming and diving team since her sophomore year. She currently trains year-round with Flagstaff Snow Sharks Inc, where she primarily specializes in distance free, fly and IM.
Core has competed at two consecutive AIA (Arizona Interscholastic Association) Division II State Championships thus far, with her top performances coming at the 2025 iteration in November. She prevailed in the 200 free (1:53.72 – PB) and 500 free (5:02.22) and helped her team to a 9th-place finish in the 400 free relay, leading off in a time of 54.99.
At the 2025 Holiday Swim Festival a month later, Core posted a series of strong performances. She won the 1650 free (16:55.36 – PB) and placed 7th in the 400 IM (4:36.98), 13th in the 200 free (1:8.64) and 16th in the 1000 free (10:10.00 – PB).
Core turned in another string of top swims at the 2026 PSC Winter Invitational in February, clocking a personal best time in five events. She won the 400 IM (4:30.77 – PB) and 200 fly (2:05.84), and she took 2nd in the 100 fly (58.24 – PB) and 200 IM (2:09.48 – PB), 4th in the 50 breast (31.75 – PB) and 200 breast (2:28.49), 6th in the 100 breast (1:09.17), 9th in the 50 free (25.07 – PB) and 11th in the 100 back (1:03.37).
Core competed at the 2026 Boise Sectionals (LCM) over the summer, earning a second swim in four events. She prevailed in the 200 fly (2:21.69) and placed 5th in the 800 free (9:15.22), 9th in the 400 free (4:30.79) and 400 IM (5:10.79) and 20th in the 200 free (2:10.93). UNLV is a Division I Mid-Major program in the Mountain West Conference; the women took 3rd at last season’s conference championships before sending two athletes, junior Ava Olson and freshman Rachel Wigginton, to compete at the 2026 NCAA Division I Women’s Championships. Based on the results from the 2026 Mountain West Conference Championships, Core would have placed 13th in the 1650 free and would have landed in the ‘C’ final in the 500 free, giving her a chance to score some points early on.
On the team itself, Core would have ranked 2nd in the 1650 free, 3rd in the 400 IM, 4th in the 1000 free and 5th in the 200 fly last season, setting her up to be a strong contributor for the Rebels.
Currently set to join Core in UNLV’s class of 2031 are Isabella Castro, Finley Harroff and Claire Wilson, all of whom should make for strong training partners over the next four years.
