Chelsea’s rising star Chizaram Ezenwata has been named among the finalists for the U18 Premier League Player of the Season award following an outstanding breakthrough campaign that has caught the attention of English football.
The 17-year-old forward, who was part of the 2025 Flying Eagles invitation list, enjoyed a remarkable season for Chelsea’s youth side. He signed his first professional contract with the club in December 2025, marking a major step in his young career.
Ezenwata, a tri-national talent eligible to represent England by birth and Cameroon through his mother, delivered an eye-catching performance throughout the season, establishing himself as one of Chelsea academy’s standout performers.
Breakout Season at Chelsea Academy
The young striker directly contributed to 22 goals for Chelsea’s U18 team, scoring 15 times and providing seven assists. His consistency in front of goal made him the leading contributor in both scoring and creativity for his side.
Among his standout moments were impressive braces against Reading and West Brom, highlighting his ability to perform against strong opposition.
He also enjoyed a strong scoring run, finding the net in six consecutive matches between matchdays two and seven, underlining his sharp form early in the season.
Recognition and Development Progress
His performances did not go unnoticed, as he earned nominations for Chelsea’s Goal of the Month award in both October and December 2025.
Beyond the U18 level, Ezenwata gained valuable experience across multiple competitions. He featured for Chelsea’s development squad in the Premier League International Cup, Premier League 2, and the EFL Trophy. He also took part in the UEFA Youth League, gaining exposure to higher-level youth European football.
Strong Competition for the Award
Ezenwata faces tough competition for the U18 Premier League Player of the Season award. The shortlist includes Chelsea teammate Mathis Eboue, Manchester United’s Joseph Junior Gabriel and Albert Mills, Manchester City’s Teddie Lamb, Middlesbrough’s Joe Roberts, Liverpool’s Joshua Sonni-Lambie, and Tottenham Hotspur’s Tyler Tingey.
The winner of the prestigious youth award will be announced at the Premier League Youth Development Conference scheduled for Tuesday, May 12.
