One big detail of the torch relay for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics was announced on Tuesday.

LA28 organizers said that the torch relay will begin in Atlanta, the last U.S. city to host the Summer Olympics back in 1996.

The torch’s journey will begin there and eventually travel through all 50 states before arriving in Los Angeles for the Opening Ceremony on July 14, 2028.

Full specifics of the torch relay route won’t be announced until next year, but organizers have said it will pass through landmarks, sporting events and significant celebrations along the way.

As is custom, the torch will be created in Athens, Greece, birthplace of the Olympics, in the spring of 2028 before being flown to Atlanta and carried around the U.S.

The Paralympic torch relay will take place after the Olympics are over.

Of course, the big change for the 2028 Olympics is that swimmers may have thechance to attend and fully experience the Opening Ceremony once the torch eventually gets to Los Angeles.

In a change from past Olympics, the swimming competition will be held the second week of the Games instead of the first, flip-flopping its customary schedule with track and field, which will contest its events the first week.

The change comes due to the fact that the swimming competition will take place in a custom-built pool inside SoFI Stadium, which is also hosting the Opening Ceremony. Once the Opening Ceremony is over, work will begin on putting the pool in place at SoFI Stadium.

In past years, many swimmers weren’t able to attend the Opening Ceremony because competition began the very next day.
