World Aquatics World Cup #3 – Astana

Swimmers were successful on 8 out of 10 Crowns attempts on day 2 of the Astana stop of the 2026 Swimming World Cup. That means another $80,000 in bonuses for swimmers who won races at all three stops of this year’s series, and another $5,000 in bonuses for swimmers who busted Crowns.

This year, like last year, World Aquatics is awarding extra $10,000 in prize money to swimmers who win an event at all stops of the Swimming World Cup. They are also giving $2,500 to each swimmer who prevents a Crown.

Swimmers who win a Crown have the opportunity to win a bonus $20,000 if they win the same event again at the Short Course World Championship in December in Beijing.

American Luke Barr had one Crown when he won his third straight 100 IM, but he also was busted when American-Dutch swimmer Caspar Corbeau won the 200 breaststroke by half a second.

Dutch swimmer Marrit Steenbergen, who has the women’s overall title and $100,000 bonus wrapped up, added a second Crown to her register after winning a third-straight 50 back on Thursday.

Roos Vanotterdijk of Belgium (50 fly, now 100 fly) and Pieter Coetze of South Africa (100 back, now 200 back) also added an additional crown to their tallies. Vanotterdijk’s 100 fly time of 54.80 was four-tenths beter than she was in the first two stops. Coetze swam 1:48.08 in the 200 back, which crushed his previous series best of 1:49.32.

Chen Juner of China got some redemption after getting busted in the 200 fly on Thursday. He won the 100 fly on Friday in 49.59 – his fastest time of the series.
