WWE
There are a number of WWE stars currently absent from television across Raw and SmackDown, whether due to injuries, storylines or a lack of creative plans.
Whatever the reason, a break from TV is often the perfect chance to refresh a star’s character and give them a big push right out of the gate once they’re back in the ring.
We saw this recently with Carmelo Hayes, who after six months of struggling in the SmackDown mid-card returned as the 946’s newest member on Monday Night Raw.
Following this successful turn, many other babyfaces could potentially follow suit by returning with a new ruthless edge.
Here are three absent babyface stars who could turn heel upon their return:
Jordynne Grace
It has now been six months since Jordynne Grace last wrestled on Friday Night SmackDown and her absence is beginning to raise more and eyebrows.
It was reported in September that there had been internal pitches for a new tag team of Grace and Ivy Nile, yet here we are, one month later without any evidence that this is actually in the works.
According to a new update from Fightful Select, vignettes were filmed for the team but it’s still unclear whether they will make it to TV or the idea has been totally scrapped.
Whether her return comes via this tag team with Nile or as a solo star, Grace feels better suited to a heel role at this point in time, at least until she gets properly settled on the main roster.
Jacob Fatu
Jacob Fatu has been the biggest casualty of the 946 thus far, with Jaida Parker running down “The Samoan Werewolf” with a car just less than a month ago on Raw.
Fatu has been off TV ever since as he sells his injuries, but somehow, despite almost dying in storyline, there is still a belief among some fans that he could leave The Bloodline in favor of the 946.
While it wouldn’t make much sense at all, we have seen plenty of nonsensical wrestling betrayals in the past, so it wouldn’t be the biggest surprise in the world.
Fatu feels like more of a fit in the 946 than The Bloodline, and it would be a lot of fun to see him become the fully unhinged heel version of himself yet again.
Seth Rollins
Seth Rollins is no stranger to a heel turn, having changed allegiances several times over the years.
While his entrance theme is catchy and fans will sing it regardless of which side of the heel/babyface divide he’s on, Rollins has always felt more natural as a bad guy, and his most recent heel run as the leader of The Vision only came to an end because of his shoulder injury.
Much like his 2016 babyface turn, Rollins didn’t really do anything to warrant being cheered in storyline – he was instead simply betrayed by his heel allies after acting like a jerk all year. He may have expressed remorse for his actions in The Vision but he still very much felt like the same Seth Rollins he was before.
With a lack of new and exciting opportunities on Raw for him as a babyface, perhaps a heel turn is a way for WWE to find a place for him on the show?
