Fitter and Faster Swim Camps is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.
Abby McLeod, a Canadian Junior National team member, has announced her verbal commitment to swim for Auburn University beginning in the fall of 2028. McLeod currently swims for Winskill Dolphins Swim Club in Tsawwassen, British Columbia, where she primarily specializes in mid-distance and distance free.
“I am so excited to announce my verbal commitment to continue my academic and athletic career at Auburn University! I would like to give a big thank you to Coach Averee, Coach Ryan and all the coaching staff at Auburn for this opportunity! And a huge thank you to Coach Judy, I would not be here without her! I would also like to thank my family and friends including Coach Duco for always supporting me! WAR EAGLE🧡💙”
McLeod competed at the 2025 World Junior Championships (LCM), where she posted two lifetime best performances. She placed 11th in the 1500 free (16:47.22) and 17th in the 800 free (8:55.94), setting personal best times in both.
This past summer, McLeod turned in another series of top performances at the Bell Canadian Swimming Trials (LCM) in July, where she earned a second swim in two events and clocked three personal best times. She won the 1500 free (16:44.22 – PB) and took 2nd in the 800 free (8:52.72 – PB) and 3rd in both the 200 free (2:01.84 – PB) and 400 free (4:18.26).
At the 2026 Junior Pan Pacific Championships (LCM) a month later, McLeod posted significant time drops in two of her events. She placed 5th in the 1500 free (16:49.62), 6th in the 800 free (8:46.02 – PB) and 400 free (4:16.63 – PB) and 20th in the 200 free (2:04.58).
McLeod also showed off her chops in the short course meters events last season, turning in a string of fast performances at the 2026 BC Winter Provincial Invitational in March. She prevailed in the 400 free (4:12.60 – PB), 800 free (8:43.99) and 1500 free (16:25.27 – PB) and placed 2nd in the 200 free (2:00.44 – PB), 6th in the 100 free (56.74 – PB), 12th in the 400 IM (5:03.74 – PB) and 32nd in the 200 IM (2:27.80 – PB).
Best Times LCM (SCY Conversion)
- 200 free – 2:01.84 (1:46.88)
- 400 free – 4:16.63 (4:47.54)
- 800 free – 8:46.02 (9:49.37)
- 1500 free – 16:44.22 (16:24.52)
A Division I program, Auburn competes in the Southeastern Conference, with the women’s team placing 7th at last season’s conference championships before sending six athletes to compete at the 2026 NCAA Division I Women’s Championships, where they finished 25th overall. Based on the results from the 2026 SEC Championships, McLeod would have landed in the ‘C’ final in the 500 free and would have placed 14th in the 1650 free with her projected SCY times, giving her a chance to score some points early on for Auburn.
On the team itself, McLeod would have ranked 1st in the 1650 free, 2nd in the 1000 free, 4th in the 500 free and 5th in the 200 free last season. With almost two full seasons to go before she joins the team, it remains to be seen how the roster will shake out, but McLeod looks to be in a strong position to be a top contributor.
Currently set to join McLeod in Auburn’s class of 2032 are Ella Morgan, Eloise McLellan, Bella Ferguson, Abby Moore and Madi King, who should all make for strong training partners over their four years together.
