Jim Ross has indicated that his time may be at an end in AEW, and he will seemingly be at peace with that should it be the case.
Having signed his first deal with AEW back in April 2019, Jim Ross has served as a member of the commentary team and a senior advisor.
Recently, Ross’ health has seem him used in a limited capacity, with the veteran announcer confirming in July that he is set to undergo brain surgery.
Ross addressed his future in AEW on a recent episode of Grilling JR, noting his “contract is up this month” and how he feels about his current standing, saying:
“If you ask me, ‘JR, how much longer do you think you’re gonna do announcing?’ I think my contract is up this month, so I’m done, pretty much.
“I don’t want to be done, but if Tony Khan said, ‘JR, thanks for the efforts and thanks for being here’ and all that stuff, I’d have no problem with that.
“How can I be such a greedy b*****d and want more in my career than I’ve already received? Sometimes you get summoned onto a great job and a great career. My career as a wrestling broadcaster has been nothing but wonderful.”

A Hall of Famer in his previous company, Ross parted ways with WWE in March 2019 after opting to not renew his contract.
Jim Ross Could Still Have A Role In AEW
Arguably among the most recognizable voices in professional wrestling commentary, it’s hard to imagine an era where Jim Ross doesn’t provide the voice to matches, having done so in AEW, WWE, WCW and beyond over his multi-decade career.
Beyond being a commentary partner, however, Ross has a long history in behind-the-scenes roles, serving as WWE Executive Vice President of Talent Relations for a period, while maintaining his on-screen presence.
Ross being a senior advisor in AEW suggests that he has continued to be influential in a backstage capacity, something that could very well continue even if he stops being an on-air talent. He maintains a vast knowledge and awareness of the business, whether that be in WWE or AEW, that has developed over time, and it would be a loss to the company if he wasn’t able to continue to share that insight, even on a part-time or remote schedule.
Over the years, health issues have hindered Ross’ ability to deliver in the way he had in previous decades, but he remains one of the stars who, for a number of fans, defines generations of wrestling for very good reason.
