Hangman Adam Page and Brodido regained the AEW World Trios Championship at WrestleDream in Orlando, Florida.
At AEW All In: London, the former New Day members Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods, now going by ‘Kofi’ and ‘Austin Creed’, made their debut for AEW following their WWE departure back in April.
The New Level would arrive as the partners for Swerve Strickland, with the trio winning the AEW World Trios Championship in their first night.
Swerve and the New Level would continue to defend the titles in the weeks since, with a rematch against Hangman Adam Page and Brodido set for tonight’s AEW WrestleDream event.
Hangman Adam Page & Brodido regain AEW World Trios Championship
The match for tonight’s show was a Two out of Three Falls match, which saw the New Level score the first fall with the UpUpDownDown on Bandido.
Bandido would be the man to level the score for the teams, when he managed to pin Austin Creed to tie the match and take it to the final fall.
Despite all the issues between Swerve and Hangman during the match, it was Bandido who delivered the final blow, pinning Swerve to regain the Trios Championship for his team.
New directions for Swerve and the New Level
After the match is where we would see some interesting developments, with Kofi and Creed congratulating the winners, handing the titles over to Brody King and Bandido.
However, Swerve told the New Level that Hangman and Brodido didn’t deserve the win, with him refusing to hand his title over to Hangman, simply dropping it on the floor and walking out alone without Kofi and Creed.
With the Trios rivalry now over, it seems as though Swerve and the New Level are set to move onto different things going forward.
Protecting the New Level for future dream match with the Young Bucks
Interestingly, the New Level were largely protected at the end of the match, with Swerve being the one to take the losing fall.
Since the New Level arrived in AEW, fans have been eagerly awaiting the eventual dream match between them and the Young Bucks, which fans have wanted for at least a decade at this point.
With the New Level now entering AEW’s Tag Team Division for the first time, them being kept strong even in defeat means the dream match could be upon us even sooner than we think.
