Alexander Zverev has enjoyed the best season of his tennis career.

The German superstar has won his first two Grand Slam titles – Roland Garros and the US Open – and is now guaranteed to end the year as the world number one.

However, the German has failed to reach the same heights at Masters 1000 events across the course of 2026.

Let’s take a look back at Zverev’s 2026 performances ahead of the final Masters event of the year.

Alexander Zverev has not won a Masters 1000 title in 2026

Zverev, a two-time ATP Finals champion, began his 2026 Masters campaign by reaching the Indian Wells semi-finals.

How long do you think Alexander Zverev keeps the number one ranking?

He is now guaranteed to be year end number one after Carlos Alcaraz’s shock loss in Shanghai…

The 30-year-old beat Matteo Berrettini, Brandon Nakashima, Frances Tiafoe and Arthur Fils before losing to eventual champion Jannik Sinner.

Zverev followed up this result with semi-final appearances in Miami and Monte Carlo, losing to Sinner in both events.

Sinner again thwarted Zverev’s title aspirations two weeks later, beating the German 6-1, 6-2 in the Madrid Open final.

Zverev then entered a poor run of form at Masters events, failing to reach the quarter-final stage in Rome, Montreal and Cincinnati.

Last week, Zverev again reached the semi-finals of a Masters tournament; this time in Shanghai. He was beaten by eventual champion Alejandro Davidovich Fokina in three sets, 7-5, 4-6, 3-6.
