Andy Murray claims he has ‘not missed tennis at all’ and barely ever plays the sport any more

Andy Murray is a man who has historically given very little away regarding his emotions, although that does seem to have altered since his retirement.

His appearance on various podcasts or interviews has allowed fans a much greater glimpse into the dry, funny and genuine man behind such impressive success earned on the court during the toughest period in the sport’s history.

However, that does not mean he has changed at all, and his disdain for things is not well hidden should he feel strongly about it.

That became abundantly clear when asked whether he planned to ever make a return to tennis and re-emerge from retirement.

That is definitely not in Andy Murray’s plans.

Andy Murray insists he will not be making a return to tennis

Speaking to BBC Sport Scotland at a golfing Pro-Am event at the Nexo Championship, Murray was asked about Serena’s return to tennis, and whether this might have stirred any feelings within himself.

“You’re in good nick,” the interviewer remarked, wondering whether the Scotsman had any plans to follow in the American’s footsteps.

Are there any other players you would like to see come out of retirement? If so, who?

Omg yall I’m NOT coming back. This wildfire is crazy-

His answer was short and rather insistent: “Oh, God, no. No interest. And I’m really happy about that.

“Like, I’ve not really… I’ve not missed it at all. Don’t really hit balls anymore. You know, unless I have to.

“And yeah, just enjoying being away from the sport for a bit and yeah playing golf, being with my family and just doing normal things for a while.”

Murray joined Jack Draper as his coach back in May, but has yet to be given the opportunity to really do much due to the injury woes suffered by the 24-year-old.

Andy Murray’s theory for Jack Draper’s injury issues

Murray will be as disappointed as anybody to see Draper, seemingly his good friend, continually struck down with such unrelenting fitness issues.

Such turmoil has plagued last year’s Indian Wells champion for well over a year now, and no matter what he does, the progress seems minimal.

Speaking last month, Murray actually had a theory for why Draper and many of his fellow modern-day professionals were suffering from a similar injury profile.

Who is to blame for Jack Draper’s injury issues?

He suggested: This is an interesting one because I don’t think the data suggests we are getting any more injuries now compared to ten years ago.

“There does seem to be more upper limb injuries than there were, and in my opinion, that is due to the change in racket technology and the strings that players are using.

“Players have gone to much lighter rackets than they used to use before. And with quite stiff strings in the racket, so a lot of force is going through the arm. I feel like that’s something that maybe some of the players should look at.”
