Barcelona set for sudden €5m funds boost

La Liga giants Barcelona are set to receive a sudden and altogether welcome boost on the financial front over the days ahead. This comes amid the understanding that Jan Virgili is on the verge of a move to Belgium with Club Brugge.

Youngster Virgili for his part brought a close to his stint on the books of Barcelona, departing Catalunya’s capital for then-La Liga rivals RCD Mallorca.

From here, the 20-year-old went on to enjoy a solid individual campaign, notching six direct goal contributions in the colours of his new club.

Following Mallorca’s shock relegation back to the 2nd tier of Spanish football, Virgili has therefore been earmarked as a market opportunity by a whole host of clubs across Europe.

And as alluded to above, if the latest word stemming from the media on Thursday is anything to go by, then one such suitor now appear closer than ever to closing a deal for the young winger.

As per a report from journalist Sergi Capdevila of Diario Sport:

‘Jan Virgili is one step away from Club Brugge. At Sport, we can confirm that only a few details remain to be ironed out. He has already said goodbye to the squad. The Belgian club will pay the €12 million release clause.’

Owing to a sell-on clause included in the deal which sent Virgili to Son Moix last summer, Barcelona will be entitled to a cut of around €5 million from the attacker’s Brugge switch.
