DART Swimming head coach Billy Doughty has been named the head coach for Team USA at the 2026 World Short Course Championships, where he will lead the delegation in his first-ever senior-level international coaching appointment.

Doughty is a member of the USA Swimming Board of Directors and Chair of the National Team Steering Committee.

Assistant Coaches will be named at a later date.

Doughty is the coach of Luca Urlando, who made the team and broke an American Record in the 200 fly at last week’s Short Course World Championship Trials. Urlando completed his collegiate career at Georgia in the spring, withdrawing from the NCAA Championships, and has been back training with Doughty in Sacramento, which was Urlando’s youth club.

Doughty has a handful of junior team appointments. In 2018, he served as a coach for the National Junior Team trip to the Mel Zajac meet in Canada and Junior Pan Pacs in Fiji.

In 2019, he was the head coach of the boys’ team at the World Junior Championships.

DART Swimming was named a Silver Medal Club in the USA Swimming Club Excellence Program results announced last week.

Short Course Worlds will take place in Beijing, China from December 1-6. The U.S. has led the medals table at each of the last five Short Course World Championships. In 2024, the U.S. won 18 gold medals and 39 total medals. Neutral Athletes from Russia were 2nd with 6 gold medals, while Canada was 2nd in total medals with 15.
