2026 U.S. Short Course World Championship Trials
In his 3rd event of the night, Caeleb Dressel set a new U.S. Open record in the men’s 100 IM, stopping the clock in 50.34 to take a tenth off Shaine Casas‘ 2025 record time of 50.45.
MEN’S 100 IM – Final
Final:
- Caeleb Dressel (SJAC) — 50.34 *U.S. Open Record*
- Grant House (SUN) — 51.33
- Maximus Williamson (UVA) — 51.39
- Michael Andrew (UN-CA) — 51.94

- Owen McDonald (IU) — 52.17
- Brian Benzing (TUS) — 52.29

Dressel is the world record holder in the event, but this was only his 2nd time swimming it since the 2021 ISL season. Two weeks ago, he swam 51.98 at the UVA Pro-Am meet, which he cut a second-and-a-half off of tonight to win.
This was his 2nd win of the day after he set the top time in the 50 freestyle earlier in the session. He will lock up his spot on the SC Worlds team, marking his first international roster for the United States since the 2024 Olympic Games.
He took a very strong lead early, splitting 22.37 on the opening 50 to be the only swimmer under 23 seconds in the event. He was 27.97 on the final 50, locking up the win and U.S. Open Record.

Dressel was out more than two tenths faster than Casas’ former U.S. Open Record swim where he split 22.58. He was also out faster than the 22.49 he split when he broke the world record.
He came home a little slower than both his world record pace and Casas’ swim. He was 26.79 on the 2nd 50 when he broke the world record and Casas was 27.87 last year in Westmont.
Dressel’s swim is the top time in the world so far this year.
