The heat sheets are out for the 3rd match of the inaugural CSL season, and there are two very notable absences on the womenās side in the forms of Rylee Erisman and Claire Weinstein.
Cal only has 11 women on their roster for this meet, which left the possibility that Erisman or Weinstein could end up on relays and in the skins race, but Cal confirmed to SwimSwam this afternoon that neither would be racing in the match.
Erisman was the #1 ranked recruit for the class of 2026 after she reclassified to graduate early and join the Golden Bears this season. She is joining the program with potential āAā finals times in the 100, 200, and 500 freestyle events, and this would have been her first meet with the program.
Erisman posted a few pictures on Instagram two days ago of Calās media day with the caption āBear debut šā
Weinstein is coming off a very strong freshman season with Cal, having won the 500 freestyle and finished 2nd in the 1650 freestyle at the 2026 NCAA Championships.
She battled illness this summer, ending up in the hospital for three weeks with bacterial meningitis. She withdrew from the 2026 Pan Pacific Championships and posted a video explaining her struggles coming back from the illness. She raced at the U.S. Nationals, swimming 26.15 in the 50 free and 55.45 in the 100 free, which were both off her bests of 25.53 and 53.72.
The Golden Bears are looking to continue their move up the NCAA rankings this season after they finished 4th at the 2026 NCAA Championships, and Erisman and Weinstein will be crucial components of that pursuit.
