Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games Organizing Committee CEO Cindy Hook will step down after the expiry of her contract this year
The Organizing Committee announced that Hook, an executive who was born and raised in the United States will be leaving her post on Tuesday, with her contract expiring in December after taking on the role back in December 2022.
Her scheduled departure coincides with the Organizing Committee’s completion of the initial startup and capacity-building phase, and now the operational mandate will transition “toward project delivery, venue readiness, and commercial execution ahead of the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games,” according to the Australian Ministry of Sport.
A replacement is expected to be announced in the coming months.
“During the past four years, I have achieved everything we had hoped for and had many amazing experiences along the way,” Hook said in a statement. “I know Brisbane 2032 will deliver a Games that all Australians will be proud of, and I have every confidence the team will continue what we have started with a new leader.”
Hook was born in Mississippi, grew up in California and graduated with a degree in Bachelor of Science and Business Administration from Miami of Ohio.
An executive for Deloitte, Hook moved to Australia in 2009 to work for Deloitte Australia, where she was appointed as CEO in 2015.
Brisbane will become the third Australian city to host the Summer Olympics, joining Melbourne in 1956 and Sydney in 2000.
The Games are scheduled to take place from July 23 to Aug. 8, in 2032.
Earlier this month, Brisbane unveiled its logo for the Games, which features a pink cockatoo stylized as a torch. The cockatoo is supposed to represent a cheeky, playful and friendly spirit.
