Daniil Medvedev has made ATP history this year after defending his Almaty Open title.
Medvedev won his fourth ATP title of the 2026 season after coming from behind to beat Nikoloz Basilashvili 6(6)-7, 6-1, 6-3 in the final.
This has helped Medvedev strengthen his position in qualifying for the ATP Finals this year, after missing the tournament in 2025.
As well as winning another title and improving his chances of qualifying for the ATP Finals, Medvedev has also achieved something that no other ATP player has in 2026 at the Almaty Open.

Daniil Medvedev becomes first ATP player in 2026 to win title without being broken
Medvedev was forced to come from a set down in the final against Basilashvili, but despite this still did not have his serve broken once throughout the whole tournament.
The match where Medvedev faced the most break points in Almaty was in his opener against Sho Shimabukoro, who was unable to take any of his three break point opportunities.
| Daniil Medvedev at the Almaty Open | Break points faced |
| First Round (Received a bye as the top seed) | – |
| Second Round Vs Sho Shimabukoro | 3 |
| Quarter-final vs Terence Atmane | 0 |
| Semi-final vs Alexander Bublik | 0 |
| Final vs Nikoloz Basilashvili | 2 |
According to JeuSetMaths on X, Medvedev is the first ATP player to win a title this year without having his serve broken once and it is just the 10th time it has happened since 2020.
The last time this happened was at the Hangzhou Open in 2025, when Alexander Bublik won the title without having his serve broken.
Only one player has done this more than once since 2020 in Taylor Fritz, who has won three titles since 2020 without having his serve broken.
Daniil Medvedev’s potential route to the title at the Vienna Open
Medvedev will now look to continue his momentum at the Vienna Open, where he is the third seed behind Alexander Zverev and Carlos Alcaraz.
In the first round, Medvedev will face rising Spaniard Daniel Merida, who he has only faced once before. In their only previous meeting at Wimbledon earlier this year, Medvedev came from a set down to beat Merida in four sets.
Some of the biggest threats to Medvedev in his half of the draw include Alcaraz, Jakub Mensik and Francisco Cerundolo, with Zverev a potential final opponent.

Medvedev won the Vienna Open title in 2022, and he will now be looking to continue his theme of 2026 by reclaiming titles he has won before.
The Vienna Open gets underway on Monday, October 26, giving Medvedev a short turnaround from his Almaty win.
