2026 AUSTRALIAN SHORT COURSE CHAMPIONSHIPS
The time has come for the final session of the 2026 Australian Short Course Championships, and there are still a few spots remaining for swimmers looking to punch their ticket to the World Short Course Championships in December.
This morning’s session was a fast one, and that excitement should carry over into the evening. Isaac Cooper broke the All-Comers record in the men’s 50 free in 20.72 and was the fastest in the pool by over two-tenths of a second, so he will be the favorite heading into tonight’s finals session. The only other sub-21 performance of the morning was from Ollie Moclair, who is ranked 2nd in 20.98.
After top seed Elizabeth Dekkers scratched the women’s 200 fly, Brittany Castelluzzo clinched the top spot coming out the heats just ahead of Poppy Stephen. The pair lead the pack by almost five seconds, so it will likely be a close battle between the two of them for the gold.
Olivia Wunsch, who won the women’s 100 free on day two, is the #2 seed heading into the women’s 50 free final. She trails over half a second behind Alexandria Perkins, who was the only swimmer to break 24 seconds this morning.
The men’s 200 breast is shaping up to be a tight race, with less than a second separating the top three qualifiers from the heats. Joshua Yong leads the way with a time of 2:08.04, followed by Samuel Higgs (2:08.84) and Joshua Collett (2:08.98). Collett will be back in action shortly after, as he is the top seed in the men’s 100 IM.
The fastest heats of the women’s 800 free and the men’s 1500 free will take place tonight; Lani Pallister is the top seed in the 800, while Sam Short is the favorite in the 1500.
