The Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) corruption case has taken another dramatic turn. The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has charged three individuals for alleged breaches of the ICC Anti-Corruption Code during the 12th edition of the Bangladesh Premier League.
This action is part of the BCB Integrity Unit’s wider investigation into corruption and match-fixing allegations from recent editions of the BPL. The investigation has already led to action against several people, and the BCB is now continuing its probe into different roles and incidents linked to BPL. Former BCB Director Mukhlesur Rahman faces serious charges
As reported by ESPNCricinfo, former Bangladesh Cricket Board director Mukhlesur Rahman, former security liaison officer Zakir Hossain, and former BCB councillor Rakibul Islam Sunny have been charged for breaching the ICC Anti-Corruption Code in the BPL 12.
All three have been provisionally suspended and have 14 days to respond to the charges. Mukhlesur Rahman is facing four charges under the ICC Anti-Corruption Code.
The allegations include trying to influence the result or progress of a BPL match, encouraging or helping another person take part in corrupt activity, failing to report a corrupt approach, and allegedly hiding, deleting, or destroying information that could have been important to the investigation.
Rahman was a BCB director during Aminul Islam’s tenure as BCB president and also served as chairman of the audit committee. The Integrity Unit started looking into him in January after a report by journalist Riasad Azim was published on Facebook. This report led to Rahman’s resignation. Two more former BCB officials charged
Zakir Hossain, who previously worked as the BCB’s security liaison officer, faces three charges. He has been accused of trying to improperly influence a match, encouraging or helping someone in corrupt activities, and failing to cooperate with the anti-corruption investigation.
Rakibul Islam Sunny, a former BCB councillor for Bogura and former member secretary of the audit committee, faces two charges. These charges are related to allegedly failing to report information about a corrupt approach and not cooperating with the investigation.
BCB corruption probe raises fresh questions over BPL
The latest charges come a few months after four other individuals were charged in May as part of the same corruption probe. Among them was domestic player Saminur Rahman, who was linked with Chattogram Royals in the 2025-26 BPL. He was later handed a lifetime ban over betting-related activities and other offenses.
The BCB Integrity Unit is led by Alex Marshall, who works with a team of investigators, while Barrister Mahin M Rahman is the unit’s general counsel. The growing investigation has also raised fresh questions over the future of the Bangladesh Premier League, with BCB president Tamim Iqbal recently showing concern about continuing the tournament in its current form.
However, these are only the allegations, so the accused will now get an opportunity to respond before the disciplinary process moves forward to find out the truth.
