A notable free agent has now been stripped of his championship amid rumors about him signing with WWE or AEW.
With TNA Wrestling confirming Steve Maclin’s exit in June, there has been a lot of speculation about what’s next for the former WWE star.
A new development has emerged on Maclin’s future, with the star being “stripped” of an independent promotion’s championship.
Florida-based Boca Raton Championship Wrestling has confirmed that Maclin is no longer their heavyweight champion.
They shared a clip of an virtual interview with Chairman and CEO Matthew Maschler, EVP Neil Glazier, and Maclin, during which Maclin ranted about Maschler talking trash while refusing to step into the ring.
Maclin concluded by stating that maybe Maschler can get in the ring instead of him at the upcoming Summer Smash event, telling him to “go f**k himself” and that he won’t be showing up come August 16.
Shortly after Maclin left the virtual call, Maschler confirmed that Maclin is off that card, and stated that he is being stripped of the Boca Raton Championship Wrestling Heavyweight Championship.

With there being rumors swirling about Maclin signing with a different promotion, this appears to be a worked shoot angle to explain his departure, however it is possible that this is just setting up more of a storyline between the star and Maschler.
It has been heavily speculated that Steve Maclin will land in AEW, where his wife, Deonna Purrazzo, is currently signed.
Fightful Select reported in July that there had been “at least preliminary contact” between Maclin and AEW, however they were unable to confirm whether a deal had been put in place.
There are also rumors that Maclin could return to WWE, where he wrestled as “Steve Cutler” from June 2014 to May 2020.
Maclin’s former Forgotten Sons tag-team partner Wesley Blake recently made a WWE in-ring return of his own, wrestling for the first time in three years ahead of this week’s NXT episode.
