Luciano Darderi secured his place in the Canadian Open quarter-finals with a three-set victory against Juncheng Shang on Saturday.
Darderi, the 19th seed in Montreal, triumphed 4-6, 6-1, 6-4 on the Rogers Court, striking eight aces en route to victory.
The Italian will play American Brandon Nakashima for a place in the semi-finals.

It has been a mixed season for Darderi: he has beaten the likes of Alexander Zverev and Rafael Jodar while also suffering multiple early exits at important ATP events.
He has also now set a new ATP season record.
Luciano Darderi has reached more ATP Tour quarter-finals than any other player this year
In beating Juncheng Shang on Saturday, Darderi secured his place in a 10th ATP Tour quarter-final of 2026.
The Italian has also reached the last eight at the ASB Classic, Buenos Aires Open, Chile Open, Morocco Open, Italian Open, Hamburg Open, Mallorca Championships, Nordea Open and Estoril Open.
Darderi has now become the outright leader for ATP quarter-finals reached this season, moving ahead of Alexander Zverev, who has made nine ATP Tour quarter-final appearances this year.
Darderi also leads Jannik Sinner, Ben Shelton and Felix Auger-Aliassime: all of whom have reached eight Tour-level quarter-finals this year.
Shelton could add a ninth to his resume when he plays Joao Fonseca in the Canadian Open fourth round on Sunday.

The Italian is currently ranked 22nd on the Tour but has risen two spots in the live rankings following his latest victory.
By reaching the quarter-finals, Darderi has earned 200 ATP ranking points and increased his total by 150 points to 2,175 – 170 points behind Casper Ruud in 15th.
Darderi would rise to 15th in the rankings if he advances to the semi-finals, and Jakub Mensik and Learner Tien lose before the penultimate round.
