Juan Carlos Ferrero departed the tennis world at the back end of last year, when he split with Carlos Alcaraz after seven hugely successful years together.

It was a decision that seemingly came out of nowhere and stunned supporters, who saw no reason to end such a fruitful partnership so swiftly.

Many wondered how the 23-year-old would perform without his long-term mentor by his side, but starting 2026 by claiming the Australian Open title marked a strong start to this new era.

Sadly, injury went on to ravage the bulk of his campaign, whilst Ferrero shocked many by pivoting from tennis into golf.

Which player will Juan Carlos Ferrero coach next?

The Spaniard left Carlos Alcaraz’s team at the end of 2025…

It seems like his role helping young golfer Ángel Ayora with the mental side of the sport is not hugely serious, as he continues to flirt with the prospect of returning to tennis soon.

However, despite how vocal he has been, one ATP star has been trying to lure him back into his camp, with limited success.

Juan Carlos Ferrero has rejected the chance to coach Flavio Cobolli

Chatting with El Larguero, seemingly in an effort to promote his book, it was only natural for the topic of his coaching future to come up.

After all, the Spaniard has spoken relentlessly about his future, with Ferrero even linked with coaching Jannik Sinner recently.

Interestingly, it is another Italian who has actually been trying to tempt the 46-year-old, with Stefano Cobolli, father of Flavio Cobolli, now speaking to Super Tennis about his efforts with Ferrero.

He revealed: “I have been trying for two years to get Ferrero to be Cobolli’s coach. However, he has told me no three or four times. But that’s no problem.”

Juan Carlos Ferrero claims he would be open to coaching Rafael Jodar

Elsewhere, speaking to the aforementioned Spanish outlet, Ferrero was recently asked the question about Rafael Jodar.

He began with huge praise for his countryman: “Yeah, well, we already had him as a practice partner during the Davis Cup, and we were already being told that he was coming on strong and competing really well.

“Personally, I was left with a very good impression from that week of training with everyone; you could see he had significant potential.

“Well, he’s really hungry for success; you can see the drive in him. It’s clear that his father and the team behind him have done a great job guiding him. I think next year we’ll see a player with more experience than he has now—someone who is sure to be capable of achieving great things.”

Then, asked if he would consider coaching Jodar, Ferrero added: “I’m not closing the door. He has enormous potential, a lot of desire, he’s young and wants to conquer the world. If an offer comes in, I’ll consider it.”
