Fitter and Faster Swim Camps is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.
Viona Sunjaya, a Junior Nationals qualifier and Maryland high school state champion, has announced her verbal commitment to swim for the U.S. Naval Academy beginning in the fall of 2027.
“I am so excited to announce my verbal commitment to continue my academic and athletic career at the United States Naval Academy! First, I want to thank God, my family, and my friends for their unwavering support. I am so grateful for my coaches and teammates for pushing me to become the person I am today. I would also like to thank Coach Mo, Coach Carlye, and Coach Clay for this amazing opportunity! GO NAVY! ️”
A senior at Damascus High School in Maryland, Sunjaya has been a member of the school’s varsity swimming and diving team since her freshman year. In addition to representing Damascus, she currently trains year-round with Rockville Montgomery Swim Club, primarily specializing in breast and IM.
Sunjaya is a ten-time Maryland high school state champion and is the three-time defending state champion in both the 100 breast and 200 IM. At the 2026 MPSSAA 3A/2A/1A State Championship in February, Sunjaya clinched the title in the 100 breast (1:02.60 – PB) and 200 IM (2:07.31) and helped her team to victory in the 400 free relay.
At the 2026 NCSA Spring Championships, Sunjaya posted a series of top performances, earning a second swim in three events and logging three new lifetime bests. She placed 14th in the 200 breast (2:16.86) after setting a best time of 2:16.22 during prelims, and she placed 18th in the 50 breast (29.25 – PB) and 19th in the 100 breast (1:03.07). She also contested the 200 IM (2:06.55 – PB).
Sunjaya turned in a strong showing at the 2026 NCSA Summer Championships (LCM) in July, setting a personal best time in three events. She placed 13th in the 50 breast (33.77 – PB), 19th in the 200 breast (2:40.81) and 16th in the 100 breast (1:14.12) after posting a best time of 1:13.52 during prelims. She also contested the 100 free (1:00.38 – PB). A few weeks later, Sunjaya competed at the 2026 Junior National Championships (LCM) in August, where she contested the 50 breast (34.45), 100 breast (1:15.75) and 200 breast (2:41.90).
Best Times SCY:
- 100 breast – 1:02.60
- 200 breast – 2:16.22
- 200 IM – 2:06.55
A Division I Mid-Major program in the Patriot League, the Navy women took home their 14th-straight conference championship title last season. Based on the results from the 2026 Patriot League Championships, Sunjaya would have landed in the ‘A’ final in the 100 breast and 200 breast and the ‘C’ final in the 200 IM, setting her up to be a strong contributor right from the start.
Currently set to join Sunjaya in Annapolis next fall are Jackie Bonavilla, Cecilia Walusek, Olivia Musick, Ariana Aldeguer, Samantha Fenstermaker, Alicia Czosnyka, Savannah Duffy and Chloe Gustin, who should all make for strong training partners over the next four years.
