Kalvin Phillips: Sheffield United re-sign Manchester City midfielder on loan

Sheffield United have re-signed Manchester City midfielder Kalvin Phillips on a season-long loan deal.

The 30-year-old joined the Blades on loan in February and made just three appearances for the club having suffered a knee injury.

Phillips joined City from Leeds United on a six-year contract in 2022 in a deal worth £45m and was part of the side which won a historic Premier League, Champions League and FA Cup Treble in 2023.

“This was the move I wanted. My time was spoiled by my last game and the injury after that so I’m here to put that right,” Phillips told the club website., external

“The squad is similar to what it was last year, I’m happy to see everyone and I’m looking forward to coming back fighting fit.”

The former England international has fallen out of favour at Etihad Stadium but had a mixed spell at Bramall Lane last term.

In addition to his knee injury, Phillips was sent off in February’s Steel City derby.

“We’ve stayed in contact with Kalvin throughout the summer and in those conversations what was always clear was both sides wanted to make this happen,” boss Chris Wilder said.

“Clearly, there has had to be a degree of patience to get a deal completed. Make no mistake, this is a good deal for the football club, and I have to thank the owners and [Blades CEO] Stephen Bettis for their diligence and persistence to get this one done.”
