2026 U.S. Short Course World Trials
It is almost time for the first prelims session of the 2026 Short Course World Trials, and one of the biggest scratches for the session comes from Kate Douglass‘ scratch out of the 100 IM.
Douglass is the 3rd fastest 100 IMer in history, and she finished 2nd in the event at the 2024 SC World Championships, just behind Gretchen Walsh‘s world record performance.
She will not swim the event this morning, though, choosing instead to focus on the 200 breaststroke and 50 freestyle events, where she is the top seed and the 2nd seed respectively.
Another big scratch on the 2nd day of the meet comes from Anna Peplowski, who was the top seed in the women’s 400 freestyle. It is not currently clear if she earned a wild card spot for the SC World Championships, but she will not be racing this morning and Chloe Stepanek will move into the top seeded spot as the only swimmer entered in the event with a SCM time.
On the men’s side, there were a few top-10 scratches including Jack Kelly dropping the men’s 100 breaststroke, where he was the 4th seed, Lamar Taylor scratching his 5th seed in the 50 free, and Michael Andrew scratching his 10th seed in the 50 free.
Kelly and Taylor will not be racing today, but Andrew is still entered in the 100 IM as the 4th seed.
