Katie Boulter has been in good form as of late.
After reaching the Japan Open semi-finals, Boulter has carried her good form into the Hong Kong Open.
The Briton began her campaign by defeating Viktoriya Golubic on Monday, triumphing 6-2, 7-6.
This week represents an important period in the calendar for Boulter, who is competing in her final WTA Tour event of 2026.
If Boulter were to have a strong campaign in Hong Kong, she would certainly put herself in good stead ahead of the 2027 WTA season.

Following her semi-final run in Japan, Boulter rose to world number 49 and reclaimed the British number one spot from Sonay Kartal.
In Hong Kong, Boulter is defending only one WTA ranking point, having lost her opening match of the 2025 event to Filipina Alexandra Eala.

Of course, winning Hong Kong will be easier said than done; Boulter will play world number 102 Claire Liu in her next match.

Why being seeded is so important at Grand Slam events
The difference between being ranked 32nd and 33rd in a Grand Slam singles event is monumental.
Those ranked 32nd and above are seeded, and therefore cannot face another seeded player until the third round.
Meanwhile, unseeded players can draw any player in the first round of a Grand Slam event.
For example, the 33rd highest-ranked player in a Grand Slam singles tournament could play world number one Elena Rybakina in the 2027 Australian Open first round.
