The 946 are coming for The Bloodline, with Roman Reigns in the crosshairs of Royce Keys and a need to keep The OTC looking strong.
To date, Roman Reigns has managed to stay outside specifically targeted aggression of The 946, with Solo Sikoa, The Usos and Jacob Fatu all being targetted over past weeks.
That’s not to say he’s been absent, with Reigns delivering a Spear to Bronco Nima following the brawl between The Bloodline and The 946.
The Bloodline may have stood victorious, but Keys had made it clear that Reigns is the target, presenting a challenge to WWE creative:
A World Heavyweight Championship match in the making
Roman Reigns has made his thoughts on his World Heavyweight Championship reign clear, declaring it to be the top title simply because it is in his possession.
It’s that title that Royce Keys no doubt covets, along with the opportunity to take down a veteran star who has been at the top of the mountain for much of this decade.
For Keys, however, he’s not the only potential challenger to Reigns, with Dave Meltzer suggesting “they are building Reigns vs. Oba Femi as the super dream match of the year” in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter.
It would be an interesting move to run that match while Reigns is still fending off the feral faction that is The 946, presenting a challenge when it comes to juggling two major threats at the same time and potentially diluting one rivalry as it bleeds into the other.
From WWE Crown Jewel to Survivor Series: WarGames
Roman Reigns faces Sami Zayn for the WWE Crown Jewel Championship at the PLE of the same name on November 7, although how much value the match will have to either star’s career is up for debate.
It isn’t beyond the realm of possibility that Zayn will walk out with the Crown Jewel Championship, with The 946 being the ones to shift the balance in his favor, unleashing a blatant and brutal attack on The OTC in Riyadh.
Much weight has been put behind the idea of Roman Reigns leading The Bloodline against The 946 at Survivor Series: WarGames on November 28. Adding Zayn to The 946 for that match would allow the feud with Reigns to continue, particularly if the World Heavyweight Champion points out that his SmackDown opposite number couldn’t get the job done on his own.
Keeping Roman Reigns at the Head of the Table
There is no argument to be made that Roman Reigns is a top, if not the top, star in WWE and this is likely to continue through his remaining time ahead of retirement. He has been the Head of the Table for so long now that anyone else stepping into that role is unseemly, despite the contenders. It’s a position that should not just be taken, but eroded over time by an unstoppable force such as Royce Keys.
Whether champion or not, Reigns is unlikely to become ‘Sad Corbin’ levels of broken coming out of whatever is to come. The idea of Reigns as an isolated star, seeing his own family as the villains and the rest of the roster out to get him has a certain appeal, casting The OTC as a wounded lion at his most dangerous, fighting for survival. It would allow Reigns to crystalize everything he has built over the years and, if delivered properly, would see the dramatic fall of a king.
Reigns facing Femi, should that match happen, would be an ideal main event at WrestleMania 43, but then so would The OTC versus Royce Keys. The 946, handled properly, stands a chance of having as much impact as The Bloodline when that faction was introduced and rose to significance, and the downfall of Reigns as the catalyst for that rise would be quite the moment.
