Liverpool Pull Out of Jones Loan, Blocking Frattesi Move

Inter Milan’s pursuit of Liverpool midfielder Curtis Jones collapsed at the final hurdle after the Reds withdrew their own loan proposal, simultaneously freezing the Nerazzurri’s plans to sell Davide Frattesi to Nottingham Forest.

According to SportMediaset, citing Corriere dello Sport, Liverpool had actively offered Jones to Inter on a straight loan basis. An agreement with the player himself had been reached, but Liverpool pulled back at the last moment – concerned about thinning their own squad and wary of complications around Jones’ contract, which runs to 2027.

That U-turn had immediate downstream consequences. Without the Jones addition, Inter removed Frattesi from the market entirely. Nottingham Forest had been ready to take Frattesi, but the move did not proceed once the Jones deal fell through.

Jones Deal Structure and Frattesi’s Transfer Details

As reported by TuttoMercatoWeb, Gianluca Di Marzio confirmed that Jones could unlock Frattesi’s departure, with the player having already given his approval and the clubs awaiting Liverpool’s green light. Di Marzio indicated that the operation would see Frattesi leave on a loan with an option to buy, for a total of €40 million. Fabrizio Romano also confirmed that Inter and Liverpool were in direct talks over a Jones loan with an option to buy, with negotiations linked to Frattesi and a response awaited from Nottingham Forest.

Liverpool’s reluctance ultimately stemmed from concerns over squad depth and complications related to Jones’ contract. For now, Curtis Jones stays at Anfield, and Frattesi stays at San Siro – both exits blocked by the same last-minute withdrawal.
