Madison Keys joins Iga Swiatek and Elina Svitolina on elite WTA list after winning US Open first round
Madison Keys secured her spot in the US Open second round with a comfortable victory over Alina Korneeva on Tuesday.
Keys, a former finalist in New York, triumphed 7-5, 6-4 inside Arthur Ashe Stadium.
It was far from a convincing performance by the 2026 Eastbourne Open champion, as evidenced by her five double faults and 31 unforced errors.

However, the American ultimately crossed the finish line and will face Anna Bondar in the second round.
In reaching the second round, Keys has already achieved an impressive career feat in New York.

Keys, the 2025 Australian Open champion, has now won 10 Grand Slam matches this season.
The American recorded fourth-round results in Melbourne, Paris, and London – racking up nine victories across the three Grand Slam events.
Upon securing her 10th major victory of the season in New York, Keys is now one of only three players to have won 10 or more Grand Slam matches in seven seasons since 2016.
According to OptaAce, Iga Swiatek and Elina Svitolina are the only other WTA Tour players who have accomplished this feat over the same period.

Keys could secure her 11th Grand Slam victory of the year when she plays Anna Bondar later this week.
Keys emerged victorious from their only previous match at the 2026 Charleston Open.
Madison Keys’ US Open debut
Keys made her first-ever professional appearance at the US Open in 2010.
The American, then only 15 years old, was beaten in the first round of qualifying by 21st seed Maria Elena Camerin.
Keys received a wildcard for the main draw in 2011. She triumphed on debut, beating fellow wildcard Jill Craybas 6-2, 6-4.
Keys was then knocked out by Lucie Safarova.
Keys’ best performance at the event [to date] occurred in 2017 when she advanced to the final.
Sloane Stephens ended Keys’ hopes of a first major title, winning 6-3, 6-0 in the final.
