Marta Kostyuk won’t make her WTA Finals debut in 2026.

The Ukrainian star had an outside chance of qualifying at the expense of Karolina Muchova. Kostyuk needed to win the Ningbo Open and the Pan Pacific Open to steal the last WTA Finals spot, but fell at the first hurdle.

She retired from her opening match in Ningbo against Ekaterina Alexandrova after losing the first set. Kostyuk issued an injury update on social media after missing out on WTA Finals qualification.

“The pain in my wrist came back, and as much as I want to keep playing, I know I need to give it more time to recover. Hoping to be back on court soon. Thank you for your support. See you next year, Asia!” said Kostyuk on Instagram.

Kostyuk could yet travel to Indian Wells as an alternate, though. Iga Swiatek, who sits above her in the ‘Race,’ won’t play again in 2026; therefore, Kostyuk will be the first name called if any of the eight WTA Finals participants suffer an injury. The 2026 WTA Finals begins on Saturday, November 6.
