Former WWE Women’s Champion Mickie James has commented on her husband Nick Aldis’ training for his in-ring return at SummerSlam.
Nick Aldis wrestled his first match in three years on August 1, losing to GUNTHER in what was technically his WWE in-ring debut.
Speaking with Emily Mae Heller, Mickie James noted that Aldis didn’t spend much time at home in the lead-up to the bout, training in Florida, and going to the gym twice a day.
James said:
“He’s been really dedicated ever since he has known that he was going to get back in the ring. He hasn’t been in the ring for three years, so it has been a lot.
“He’s been at the gym twice a day, he has not been home, he has been traveling to Florida and training to get back into the ring because ring shape is different, you know?”

James and her and Aldis’ son entered the ring following the match to celebrate with the SmackDown general manager.
Mickie James noted that she liked that her son was able to see his dad wrestle on such a platform in person, noting:
“It was amazing because I knew it was a dream come true for him, and it was amazing to sit back and watch my son as he was watching his father. What a proud moment as a dad.
“He was so young when Nick was champion, and even when I was doing stuff, I was like ‘He’s going to fall in love with wrestling after we’re both retired and we’re not going to be cool anymore.’
“But for him to actually watch him and be a part of this, with Nick getting ready for this match, it’s been really special at home.
“Obviously it didn’t go the way we wanted it to go, but what a moment for him. To hear the people, they were so with him. If they didn’t know who he was in wrestling, they do now.”

Nick Aldis made his entrance at SummerSlam to Morning Glory by Oasis, which he since has stated was a song he always visualised as his entrance theme as a kid.
With Aldis reinstated as SmackDown GM shortly after his match, it appears that he won’t be a full-time wrestler following SummerSlam.
Only time will tell as to when the former NWA Worlds Heavyweight Champion will step back into the squared circle for another match.
