AEW
The October 21 episode of AEW Dynamite will reveal the challengers for the World Championship currently held by Will Ospreay.
Having retained the AEW World Championship at WrestleDream in the first Clockwork Carnage match, Will Ospreay would pin Cope, with the WWE Hall of Famer later making it clear he wanted the title.
This week, Cope and Ospreay team up to take on Kyle Fletcher and Kevin Knight, fresh of their own title challenge to the AEW World Tag Team Champions, The Young Bucks, at WrestleDream.
With Cope having confirmed his retirement plans, Ospreay as the top champion, and Fletcher & Knight a unit of their own, the match could shape the World Championship picture:
Adam Copeland
2027 will be the last year for Adam Copeland as a full-time professional wrestler, with the star setting his sights on the World Championship after Ospreay was able to pin him to retain.
In backstage comments, Ospreay would ask Cope to keep a date for him in the calendar, indicating that both men will cross paths for the title in the future.
With Ospreay teaming with Cope on AEW Dynamite, an opportunity exists for the veteran star to leave a mark on the Aerial Assassin, reminding him to not trust those who are close to him, even if it costs him the match.
Kyle Fletcher
The history between Kyle Fletcher and Will Ospreay has been well documented, with it dating back long before their Don Callis Family days.
For Fletcher, he has escaped the shadow of Ospreay, forging his own direction in AEW, albeit still under the management of Callis, finding a tag team partner in Kevin Knight.
Reigniting the feud with Ospreay in other circumstances would seem like a step back, but for Fletcher it would be a test for a star who has evolved over the years to show what he brings to the table. Beyond that, the World Championship is no doubt the reason why Fletcher would go after Ospreay, with that singles match likely to be the recipient of all the stars.
Kevin Knight
Since September of this year, Kyle Fletcher and Kevin Knight have formed a tag team, despite The Protostar’s past protestations.
With Dave Meltzer on Wrestling Observer Radio describing the match at WrestleDream as “legit one of the greatest tag team matches” that he has ever seen in the United States, there’s no slowing down the pairing, despite them yet to have an official teamname (some call them ‘Protojet’, while FletchKnight may be a better fit!)
Knight is a former TNT Champion and has held the World Trios Championship twice. Despite being a member of the decidedly heel Don Callis Family, the idea that he would go after the World Championship at this stage would be unlikely, particularly alongside Fletcher and his ambitions.
Everyone is coming for Will Ospreay
Will Ospreay as AEW World Champion has a huge target on his broad shoulders, and every match is likely to be a highly regarded encounter.
Cope on his retirement run and Fletcher as a future World Champion in the same match could see the next step for both stars as they set their sights on Ospreay. The thought of Adam Copeland vs Kyle Fletcher for the first time ever must have crossed Tony Khan’s mind, before we finally get both men challenging Ospreay.
