It was an in-state battle between two of New Jersey’s best as the Princeton women opened up their season in a dual with Rutgers for the Cannon Trophy. The Ivy League Tigers beat the Scarlett Knights of the Big Ten, 134-109.
The Cannon Trophy began in 2019, and Princeton has won six of the seven matchups.
Three Tigers led the charge with multiple wins each; Savannah Skow got the action started with a big swim in the 1000 free, kicking off the scoring in 9:55.32. She later notched another distance free win in the 500 free, clocking 4:47.96.
Chloe Kim also notched a pair of wins on Princeton’s victorious day over Rutgers, picking up two mid-distance wins: first in the 200 free in 1:49.94, then later doubling up in the 200 fly in 2:00.07.
Dakota Tucker kept the wheels turning with a win in the 200 IM (1:57.66) and later took the 200 breast in 2:12.15.
Charlotte Norman also delivered an individual win on the boards with a 1-meter score of 299.15.
Princeton also delivered a relay win to open the swimming portion of the meet in the 200 medley relay, as Sophia Sunwoo, Delaney Herr, Skow, and Veronique Rossouw powered to a win in 1:39.81, just over three tenths of a second over Rutgers.
Rutgers still delivered five event wins, including a meet-closing relay win in the 200 free relay as Journei Webster, Emiliana Gonzalez, Lena Bauer, and Anna Vlachou came together in 1:31.07 to down Princeton by nearly a full second.
Katerina Hoffman denied the Tigers a diving sweep by winning on 3-meter in 342.68. Princeton also picked up two sprint free wins; thanks to a strong 22.37 50 free from Gonzalez, Vlachou picked up the 100 free shortly after in 49.77.
The final individual win came in the 200 back as Florence Robitaille stopped the clock in 1:57.23.
