Shubman Gill suffers minor injury scare ahead of Sri Lanka Tests

India National Cricket Team captain Shubman Gill suffered an injury scare during the team’s practice session ahead of the upcoming two-match Test series against Sri Lanka. Gill was struck on his right thumb while batting on Thursday, the second day of India’s training after the squad assembled in Sri Lanka for the red-ball assignment.

As reported by journalists on the ground, he was attended to by the team doctor and received a band-aid on his right thumb while Gill was batting at the nets. The Indian team management will be hopeful that it is nothing serious, as he has been their best batter in the traditional format since taking over the leadership role in the England series.

Shubman Gill gives Team India major scare after hurting himself in practice

Shubman Gill will be hopeful that he can bat for a long time in the nets ahead of the first match, as long as he can, as it will be helpful for the side and for him, as Sri Lanka will have some tough conditions to bat on with the pitches being slow and rank turners.

Gill, after having a strap on his right thumb, went back into the nets and batted. The Team India captain had issues with cramps and neck problems while batting in ODIs and Test cricket. He was ruled out of the Test series against South Africa earlier this year after picking up a neck injury while playing a slog sweep.

India misses out on some key players in Sri Lanka

India are already missing some of their players through injury. Jasprit Bumrah is already ruled out of the two-match series citing a knee injury which he sustained during the England ODI series in the 2nd ODI at Cardiff, which ruled him out of the third match as well. This has been a big blow for the side, with Bumrah being the spearhead of the bowling attack.

Washington Sundar will miss the opening game. Sai Sudarshan’s fitness has not yet been updated. Nitish Kumar Reddy is also ruled out of the series; Gill has a big headache in the series with his premier pacer missing out and some players missing out due to injury. He has a new bowling attack, with only Mohammed Siraj being the most experienced one in the pace department.

India has not been performing well in the Test matches, especially in home conditions; they lost two back-to-back series at home against New Zealand and then South Africa, as they were clean swept. However, they played an amazing brand of cricket in England as they drew 2-2 and won against West Indies at home and also defeated Afghanistan in a one-off Test.

India must win the remaining Test series to stay in contention for the World Test Championship final. After arriving in Sri Lanka for a two-match series, India will go to New Zealand for two Test matches. At the end of the year, Australia will go to India for a five-match series. At least seven of those nine games must be won by India.
