Lila Sherman of Arlington, Virginia has announced her verbal commitment to continue her academic and athletic career at Duke University.

Sherman swims for The FISH and Yorktown High School. She most recently competed at Summer Juniors where she finaled and swam lifetime bests in numerous events. She saw her highest finish in the 400 free as she swam a lifetime best 4:18.43. She was 12th in the 1500 free in a best time 17:09.41 and 17th in the 800 free in a 8:56.01.
Back in March, Sherman swam to wins in the 200 free and 100 back at St. Mary’s City Sectionals. She swam to a 1:48.09 in the 200 free and a 55.49 in the 100 back. Her 100 back was a lifetime best.
Sherman’s Best SCY Times Are:
- 200 free: 1:47.98
- 500 free: 4:49.85
- 1650 free: 16:40.35
The Duke women finished 8th out of 15 teams at the 2026 ACC Championships with 432.5 points. Tatum Wall led the team with 70 individual points at ACCs. The team went on to finish t-21st at the 2026 NCAA Championships.
Based on her best times, Sherman adds depth to the team’s distance free group. Sherman’s best time in the 1650 free would already score at ACCs as she would have finished 20th. Audrey Portello was Duke’s highest finisher with a 16:45.38 for 21st. It took a 4:46.29 to final in the 500 free.
Sherman will arrive next fall as a member of the class of 2031 along with Kate Guenther, Molly Lo, Sofia Oliveira, and Nola Meekins.
