The Shanghai Masters was a totally unpredictable event from the outset, with rogue results throughout.

Early exits for Novak Djokovic and Carlos Alcaraz blew the draw wide open and opened the door for many new faces to begin dreaming of enjoying their first taste of Masters 1000 glory.

It should therefore come as no surprise that we ended up with two first-time finalists in a tournament of this magnitude, with Alejandro Davidovich Fokina coming from behind to beat Rafael Jodar in the end.

In doing so, he has secured the biggest title of his career, and flown up the rankings to a career-high.

However, whilst neither of them has broken into the top ten with their runs, there has still been plenty of change off the back of the Shanghai Masters.

A semi-final run for Daniil Medvedev marked a solid return; he has enjoyed a fine run of form since the Asian swing began.

He has jumped one place as a result of this, overtaking the injured Félix Auger-Aliassime.

Rank Change Player Official points
1 – Jannik Sinner 10,950
2 – Alexander Zverev 10,070
3 – Carlos Alcaraz 5,610

7 -2 Felix Auger-Aliassime 3,590
8 +1 Alex de Minaur 3,430
9 +1 Frances Tiafoe 3,380
10 +1 Arthur Fils 3,325

The Canadian has actually dropped to seventh, with Flavio Cobolli having also jumped up a place despite his early exit in Shanghai. He is now at a career-high ranking of sixth.

Alex de Minaur is up one spot to eighth, as is Frances Tiafoe in ninth.

Arthur Fils completes the top ten, with Jódar also at a new career-high of 11th. Had he won the title, the Spaniard would have broken into the top ten.

Novak Djokovic, as a result of all of this, has dropped four places to 12th, closely followed by Davidovich Fokina in 13th.

Novak Djokovic’s golden chance to get a rankings boost in Basel

There is an opportunity for the Serbian to quickly return to the top ten, fortunately, due to his latest decision.

After all, Djokovic has accepted a wildcard at the Swiss Indoors event in Basel.

There’s not many tournaments left to play…

It’s clear that the end-of-year ATP Finals remains a huge goal for him despite the opportunity becoming less and less likely.

Many have questioned the 39-year-old for focusing on this new pursuit so suddenly, especially considering he has snubbed the event in the last two years despite qualifying with ease.

Djokovic will have his reasons, and at the very least, a strong run in Basel will help him come closer to that top-ten return, which he will always welcome.
