Turkish World Juniors Team Member Demir Ozdemir Commits to Arizona State for 2027

Fitter and Faster Swim Camps is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.

Turkish sprinter Demir Ozdemir has verbally committed to swim at Arizona State University starting in the fall of 2027.

i am thrilled to announce my verbal commitment to continue my academic and athletic career at Arizona State University!

I would especially like to thank my coach @tivperformance
and @hyukselgun61 @yuzmeegitmenii @selcukugurlu for their endless support. And also special thanks to coach @sirherb_the3rd for giving me this exciting opportunity, and my family and friends for their love and support. Forks Up!😈🔱

Ozdemir is a sprint freestyler who qualified for the semifinals in the 100 freestyle at the World Junior Championships last summer. He stopped the clock in 49.74 in the semifinal to take 11th overall. This was a bit off his best of 49.55 from a meet in Turkey in August of 2025.

He was a little off this year, missing his personal bests in the 50 free and 100 free in May, but he did set a new best in the 50 backstroke, stopping the clock in 26.41 to take 5insta

insatth place.

At the 2026 European Junior Championships, Ozdemir finished 24th in both the 50 free (23.12) and the 100 free (50.57).

Lifetime Bests LCM (SCY Conversions)

Ozdemir’s times are a little off what it will likely take to make the Big 12 team for the Arizona State Sun Devils, but he has almost two years before his first conference meet where he will be able to continue to improve, and ASU head coach Herbie Behm is well known for his ability to develop sprinters and freshmen.

SwimSwam reported last month that five of the 8 American freshmen at ASU had already swum lifetime bests in their first college meet.

Ozdemir is well within scoring position at Big 12 Championships with 20.13 scoring in the 50 free and 44.57 scoring in the 100 free.

He will join Ben Jaggers, Aidan Collins, Landon Hall, Harrison Tater, Kellen Cutler, Miroslav Terziev, Porter Ellsworth, and Thor Johannessen on campus in the fall of 2027.
