Although it is yet to be officially confirmed, Daniil Medvedev is now all but qualified for this year’s ATP Finals.

It will mark his seventh participation in this prestigious end-of-year event in eight years, which is a testament to his longevity at the apex of the sport.

Having won the tournament in the past, the 30-year-old knows exactly what it takes to secure this unique title when faced against the best players in the world.

And, there’s cause to believe that Daniil Medvedev can accomplish this feat again later this year.

In fact, he might just be the favourite.

Daniil Medvedev’s fantastic form since the US Open

Whilst Alexander Zverev will be world number one by the time the ATP Finals comes around, and Carlos Alcaraz’s form on indoor hard courts might have improved, none are more in-form right now than Medvedev.

After all, he is coming off the back of an exceptional run of form, ever since the US Open began.

How would you feel if Novak Djokovic got a wildcard to the ATP Finals?

Is there any changes you’d make to the current qualification system?

Reaching the fourth round in New York represented his best performance at a major since he made it to the 2024 Australian Open final, and he followed that up with a title in Hangzhou.

The China Open was a strange week for Medvedev, who again impressed en route to the semi-final, before he was disqualified during his match with Novak Djokovic for hitting the ball at a fan in the stands.

Brushing off this ranking and prize money setback, he then made it to the Shanghai Masters semi-final, and has since defended his Almaty Open title.

Since the start of the US Open, Medvedev has won 17 matches and lost just three, winning two titles in the process.

Nobody on the ATP Tour is currently in such fine form.

How has Daniil Medvedev performed at the ATP Finals in the past?

As aforementioned, this will not be Medvedev’s first visit to the ATP Finals.

In fact, other than Zverev and Djokovic, if he qualifies, nobody will have more experience in this particular event.

In 2020, when he won the tournament, the list of qualified players was laden with talent.

Djokovic and Rafael Nadal were the top seeds, with the Russian outlasting the 22-time Grand Slam champion before beating Dominic Thiem in the final.

This came after he had beaten Djokovic, Zverev and Diego Schwartzman in the round robin.

Medvedev has also reached another final in 2021 and the semi-finals in 2023, exiting in the group stage in 2019, 2022 and 2024.
