When the final bell sounded, the scorecards reflected what had unfolded over 12 rounds. Zepeda’s work rate, body punching, and ring control consistently outweighed Roach’s cleaner but less frequent counters.
The victory crowns Zepeda as the new WBC lightweight champion and places him among the division’s leading names heading into the remainder of the year. For Roach, the loss ends his bid to add a lightweight championship after falling short against an opponent whose relentless pressure never allowed him to establish the rhythm needed to dictate the fight.
