Fitter and Faster Swim Camps is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.
Regina Medina, a World Junior Championships qualifier and Junior Pan Pacific Championships finalist, has announced her verbal commitment to swim for Pennsylvania State University beginning in the fall of 2027.
“I’m beyond excited to announce my commitment to continue my academic and athletic career at Penn State University! I’m incredibly grateful to my family, my coach, and everyone who has supported me, believed in me, and helped me become the athlete and person I am today. I’m especially proud to represent Mexico as I begin this new chapter of my journey. It’s an honor to have the opportunity to represent Penn State and be part of such an amazing program. Thank you to the Penn State coaching staff for believing in me and giving me this incredible opportunity. I can’t wait to get started, keep growing, and see what the future holds. WE ARE! ”
The Mexican swimmer currently trains with Olympus Swim Team in Tijuana, where she primarily specializes in distance free and IM. Medina also represents the Mexican Swimming Federation.
Medina has competed in short course yards on multiple occasions; she raced at the 2025 RMDA Legends of Coaching competition in November, earning a second swim in three events. She placed 6th in the 1650 free (16:55.21), 7th in the 1000 free (10:01.95), 17th in the 400 IM (4:25.75), 18th in the 500 free (4:57.53) and 19th in the 200 free (1:52.38).
At the 2026 CAST Presidents’ Senior Day (SCY) meet in February, Medina turned in a series of strong performances. She won the 1650 free (16:39.23 – PB) and took 2nd in the 1000 free (10:04.37), 3rd in the 400 IM (4:28.48), 4th in the 500 free (4:57.45 – PB), 5th in the 50 breast (30.76 – PB), 7th in the 200 free (1:55.19), 10th in the 100 breast (1:06.72), 12th in the 200 IM (2:09.04 – PB) and 14th in the 200 breast (2:30.08).
At the 2025 World Junior Championships (LCM) in Romania, Medina posted a series of top performances. She placed 14th in the 1500 free (17:14.81), 18th in the 800 free (9:01.56) and 22nd in the 400 free (4:24.99), setting a personal best time in each event. She improved her times even further at Mexico’s 2026 International Selection meet (LCM), logging lifetime best performances in four events. She won the girls’ 17-18 age group in the 200 free (2:05.76 – PB), 800 free (8:54.14 – PB) and 1500 free (17:12.87) and took the runner-up spot in her age group in the 400 free (4:22.28 – PB) and 400 IM (5:02.97 – PB).
At the 2026 Junior Pan Pacific Championships (LCM) in August, Medina earned a second swim in two events. She placed 9th in the 1500 free (17:27.47), 13th in the 800 free (9:09.89), 16th in the 400 IM (5:12.52) and 18th in the 400 free (4:32.38).
Best Times SCY:
- 200 free – 1:52.28
- 500 free – 4:57.45
- 1000 free – 10:01.95
- 1650 free – 16:39.23

A Division I program in the Big Ten Conference, Penn State placed 13th at last season’s conference championships before sending one athlete, diver Grace Brammer, to compete at the 2026 NCAA Division I Women’s Championship. To earn a second swim at the 2026 Big Ten Conference Championships, it took times of 1:47.41/4:50.23 in the 200/500 free and 4:16.94 in the 400 IM, putting Medina outside the cutoff in each of her top events, though she would have placed 16th in the 1650 free.
On the team itself, Medina would have ranked 2nd in the 1000 free and 1650 free, 3rd in the 500 free and 400 IM and 6th in the 200 free among the Nittany Lions last season. Medina is poised to help strengthen the team’s distance depth and be a strong contributor when she joins the team, especially as one of Penn State’s top distance freestylers, Morgan Moore, graduated last spring.
Currently committed to join Medina in Penn State’s class of 2031 are Alex Kauffman, Lilli Skinner, Addy Dey Bleyker, Justice Beard and Zoe Gruber, all of whom should make for strong training partners over their four years together.
