A faction was left ‘surprised’ by their collection release from their contracts earlier this year, according to a former WWE star.
In April of this year, all members of the Wyatts Sicks were released from their WWE contracts, along with a number of other stars.
Speaking on Insight with Chris Van Vliet, the former Joe Gacy spoke about the factions release, sharing an insight into conversations that took place after the call from WWE, saying:
“We were surprised as well, and I know we were talking about it. I’m shocked that they let all of us go. I’m shocked that they let Taylor (Bo Dallas/Uncle Howdy) go. I thought for sure if it’s gonna be us, he’ll still be there doing something.
“It was strange because I remember it too. I was about to get a shower, and my phone rang and I saw it was a Stanford number. I was like well, that could either be good or bad. So I took a shower, got out of the shower, and then the group had a group chat.
“I just texted in the group chat like, ‘Hey, did anyone else get a phone call?’ And I think it was Dexter, who was like, ‘Yep.’ I was like, ‘Is it what I think it is?’ And he was like, ‘Yep.’ I was like, all right, then. So I called them back and then had that conversation.”
With his no-compete clause having expired recently, Gacy returned to the independent wrestling scene, recently teaming with Samuel Shaw (known to WWE fans as Dexter Lumis) in a victory over Martin Stone & Ripper Zbyszko at ALW Star Spangled Slammer 10.
What To Do With The Wyatts Sicks?
Unsettling in their presence, The Wyatt Sicks debuted in June 2024 with leaving a wave of destruction in their wake as they laid waste to the backstage area on WWE Raw.
When it comes to first looks, it was an impactful moment that no doubt had many looking forward to what could be next, particularly after the success of the late Bray Wyatt when it came to capturing a balance between the eerie and the natural.
For The Wyatt Sicks, however, they would end their run in a feud with The MFTs and, while still maintaining the sense of the eerie, it would become less of a tangible aspect to their presentation.
Arguably, part of the difficulty comes from the nature of the Wyatt Sicks. How does the “supernatural” play into any particular feud? Bray Wyatt was able to achieve this, particularly in his later years, by switching from the lighter, yet still unsettling, presentation of The Firefly Fun House to his darker persona of The Fiend. For The Wyatts Sicks, it felt that they didn’t have anything aside from the unsettling.
That’s not to say that they were without success, with Lumis and Gacy holding the WWE Tag Team Championship, a title they won in a victory over The Street Profits in July of last year.
Fast forward to this year, and their final match would see The Wyatt Sicks (Gacy, Lumis, Erick Rowan & Uncle Howdy) lose a Street Fight to The MFTs (Solo Sikoa, JC Mateo, Talla & Tama Tonga) on the April 17 episode of WWE SmackDown, with their collective release just days later.
