GOLD: Marrit Steenbergen (NED) – 56.83
SILVER: Roos Vanotterdijk (BEL) – 56.84
BRONZE: Yu Yiting (CHN) – 56.99
Despite not winning gold, Yu Yiting was part of one of the most exciting races of the first day of the World Cup in Baku, finishing with a bronze medal in a loaded 100 IM race in 56.99 and making both national and continental history in the process.
Yiting blasted a new Chinese and Asian Record, facing two of the fastest and most dynamic swimmers in the world in Marrit Steenbergen and Roos Vanotterdijk.
Yiting split 11.59/14.36/16.92/14.12 en route to her first time drop in the event since she set the Asian record at the 2024 World Cup in Singapore, when she clocked 57.44.

Yiting used a very strong first 50 to put herself in contention to win, trailing Vanotterdijk by about a third of a second; she would out-split Vanotterdijk on the breaststroke but was also outpaced by Steenbergen on that length, dropping to 3rd, just over two tenths off the lead. She delivered the 2nd-fastest final 25 of the field in 14.12, but ran out of room to move up the final results.
This swim now jumps her to 7th all-time, making her the 7th woman in history to clock a sub-57-second time. Her previous lifetime best had ranked 10th.
