Carlos Alcaraz has continued his impressive record against Karen Khachanov.
Alcaraz made a winning return to the Vienna Open, where he has not played in five years, after beating Khachanov in a tricky opener.
The match already appeared to be a tricky one for Alcaraz given Khachanov’s form and achievements, and certainly played out that way as he had to come from a break down in both sets to beat his Russian opponent 6-4, 7-6(5).
Despite the close-fought nature of this match, Khachanov has now become the player Alcaraz has beaten more than anyone else on the ATP Tour.
Give us one bold prediction for the final months of the 2026 tennis season!
Carlos Alcaraz has his most one-sided head-to-head vs Karen Khachanov
This was the seventh time Alcaraz had played Khachanov, and he has won all seven of those matches. This was the second time Alcaraz had faced Khachanov this year, and he has now won 15 of the 17 sets he has played against the three-time Grand Slam semi-finalist.
Khachanov is now the player Alcaraz has his most dominant head-to-head against on the ATP Tour, but he is not the only player the Spaniard has a one-sided rivalry with.
Alcaraz also has a 6-0 record against three ATP players in Alex de Minaur, Stefanos Tsitsipas and Arthur Rinderknech. Alcaraz has only ever dropped two sets against De Minaur, despite the Australian being ranked in and around the top 10 for the last three years.
The seven-time Grand Slam champion has also won all five matches he has played against Tallon Griekspoor and Dusan Lajovic, completing the list of the six players against whom Alcaraz has his most dominant head-to-heads.

Who is Carlos Alcaraz playing next at the Vienna Open?
Alcaraz will now move on to his second round match at the Vienna Open, but he does not yet know who his next opponent will be.
The world number three will await the winner of the match between Almaty Open finalist Nikoloz Basilashvili and Austrian wildcard Jurij Rodionov.
Alcaraz has never played Rodionov before, but he has won both previous matches he has played against Basilashvili. However, it has been four years since Alcaraz’s last match against Basilashvili, which took place at the 2022 Madrid Open.
The second round match between Alcaraz and either Basilashvili or Rodionov will take place on Thursday, October 29.
