Jannik Sinner has certainly got people talking after it was revealed who will be taking over from Darren Cahill as his new coach in 2027.

Sinner has hired Magnus Norman as his new coach for the 2027 season, bringing an end to his partnership with Cahill after four years working together.

This is a significant appointment for Sinner, with Norman previously coaching Stan Wawrinka, Robin Soderling and Thomas Johansson.

Hiring Norman is a big change for Sinner, who continues his recovery from his knee injury, and former world number Kim Clijsters has given her verdict on the appointment.

Kim Clijsters says Jannik Sinner hiring Magnus Norman is ‘very smart’

Clijsters spoke about Sinner’s appointment in the latest edition of her ‘Love All Podcast‘, where she spoke about her experiences with Norman. Clijsters then praised Sinner’s appointment as a ‘very smart pick’, citing the success Norman achieved with Wawrinka.

“Magnus Norman, I was very young when I came on tour and I was around him a little bit from a distance,” began Clijsters. “Very down to earth, kind, but very focused, disciplined, just humble, hardworking, just the type of person you want to have on your team, like he’s all in for you.

“His tennis brain is great. It’s not like I followed his tennis results on a weekly basis, but just to be around him and see how he would speak in press conferences, the way that he would work with Stan Wawrinka, he built a tennis academy called ‘Good to Great’. Like he’s doing a lot in the tennis world. I used to have conversations with him about his triathlons that he was doing and him still training as a professional athlete even though he was coaching a professional athlete.

“So, for some reason this feels very, very good this partnership and it was going to be very, very hard to fill Darren Cahill’s shoes, but I think this was a very, very good and a very smart pick.”

Clijsters added, “It just shows the mindset that he has, just knowing what’s best for your player and he puts his players first.

“And being able to coach someone like Stan, who was able to beat the best players, the GOATs of our sport just shows his mental strengths and how he is able to communicate towards his player and for that player to believe in themselves and know they’re capable of it. Yeah, I’m excited. I can’t wait for 2027 to start so we can start seeing that partnership unfold.”

Kim Clijsters predicts who Juan Carlos Ferrero could now coach in 2027

Cahill had been speculated to leave Sinner’s team for some time, having extended their collaboration into 2026 after it was speculated it could come to an end after 2025.

Carlos Alcaraz’s former coach Juan Carlos Ferrero recently hinted at his return to coaching, with a lot of rumours that he could join Sinner’s team.

With that now confirmed not to be the case, Clijsters has predicted the two players who she thinks Ferrero could coach instead of Sinner.

Clijsters said, “Now I’m thinking someone like [Joao] Fonseca, [Rafael] Jodar, maybe one of those two.”

Joao Fonseca, who is currently coached by Guilherme Teixeira and Franco Davin, has also ended his season early due to injury, while Rafael Jodar, who is only coached by his father, is still bidding to qualify for the ATP Finals after a breakout season.
